Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League announces draft dates

On March 2nd, the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL) announced their 2021 draft dates for each of their respective divisions. While the league did conduct their 2020 draft, shortly afterwards the words “corona virus” changed the world. The RMLL was forced to cancel the 2020 season due to the pandemic leaving lacrosse fans in Alberta without an official regular season game since August 2019 – that’s 19 months and counting!

Setting the draft dates is a sign of hope. The league conveyed their 2021 draft message through a series of tweets:

“(March 1st), the Alberta government delayed moving to step two of the covid restrictions. This means the current limits of 10 individuals (18 years of age and younger) social distancing are still in place for sport. We will be releasing information soon on pre-season practices. What we can do, what we can’t do, and the process.

Here are the forthcoming dates for RMLL drafts. All are being done virtually and at 7pm (unless noted):

1) Alberta Series (Thursday) March 11 (6:30pm North and 8:00 South)

2) JrA  (Sunday) March 14

3) Sr Women (Tuesday) March 9

4) JrB Tier 1.

South Alberta (Wednesday) March 10 (Cudas).

Central Alberta (Thursday) March 11 (Rampage and Mavericks).

GELC (Monday) March 15 (Rebels, Warriors, Crude, Outlaws)

CDLA (Monday) March 15 (Silvertips, Mounties, Shamrocks, Chill, Marauders)”

If you wanted to whet your appetite for the draft, last month with the help of John Lintz (Sr B Miners players, coach at Jr A and Tier 1 Level) and Terry Dokken (President/Head Coach, Crude Lacrosse Club) a 16U lacrosse draft article was written HERE. To view a recap of the 2020 drafts on the RMLL site hover over “divisions”, scroll and click your favourite division, then click “drafts”.

Timelines for a schedule have understandably not been released as the league (all leagues not just lacrosse) are at the mercy of the Alberta Government and Alberta Health Services. At the point of releasing a schedule is presumably when lacrosse fans would learn if they are able to attend the games.

For now we have draft dates to be excited for starting in just one week. Let’s be excited!
